Visits
The Commission on Sex in Prison is conducting visits in England and Wales and abroad to investigate how other jurisdictions deal with issues regarding consensual and coercive sex in prison and the sexual development of children in prisons.
Member of the Commission visited Halden Prison in Norway from 6-9 April 2014 to look at facilties for private family visits. Commissioners met with Tom Enger, Deputy Director General of the Norwegian Correctional Services.
Commissioners visit Spain
Commissioners visited Spain from 1-3 July 2014 to look at custodial centres for remand and sentenced children.
Members of the Commission visited three custodial centres for boys and girls aged 14-18 in Castellon, Alicante and Murcia. Children sentenced to custody were able to remain at the centres beyond their 18th birthday. The maximum custodial sentence a child can receive in Spain is 5 years.
